في هذا الكتاب الذي يتناول ثمان نوفيلات كورية، نجد الكاتبات يتحدثن عن ثيمتين رئيستين، وهما الحرب الأهلية وعلاقة كوريا الجنوبية بالشمالية، والأخرى هي معاناة الشابات ما بين إحساسهن بالغربة وسط عائلاتهن أو في العاصمة الكبيرة.
وتندرج تحت هاتين الثيمتين الرئيستين عدة أفكار منها: سجن المنزل وإمكانية الفكاك من براثن الأسرة، مشاهد التمدن وآثارها السلبية على الشابات الكوريات، مشاكل اجتماعية كالخيانة الزوجية وإنجاب فتيات في مجتمع يفضل الذكور، عواقب انقسام الكوريتين ما بين شمالية وجنوبية على العائلات بعد مرور عقود، وغيرها من الأفكار الهامة.
