يرصد الكتاب تطور العلاقات المصرية الصومالية فى فترة مهمة من فترات تاريخنا الوطنى تبدأ بعصر الخديو إسماعيل وتمتد حتى نهاية عهد الرئيس السادات، وقد قدمت المؤلفة تعريفا بجغرافية الصومال وخلفية لعلاقات مصر التاريخية به عبر العصور، حيث اهتمت مصر بالصومال فى مراحل العصور التاريخية المختلفة.
وينقسم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة فصول، الفصل الأول بعنوان بلاد الصومال تحت السيطرة المصرية من 1865 يرصد الكتاب تطور العلاقات المصرية الصومالية فى فترة مهمة من فترات تاريخنا الوطنى تبدأ بعصر الخديو إسماعيل وتمتد حتى نهاية عهد الرئيس السادات، وقد قدمت المؤلفة تعريفا بجغرافية الصومال وخلفية لعلاقات مصر التاريخية به عبر العصور، حيث اهتمت مصر بالصومال فى مراحل العصور التاريخية المختلفة.
وينقسم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة فصول، الفصل الأول بعنوان بلاد الصومال تحت السيطرة المصرية من 1865 إلى 1884، ويتناول جهود الخديو إسماعيل فى بسط سيطرته على بلاد الصومال والأوضاع السياسية التى خضعت للسيطرة المصرية وجهود مصر لمكافحة تجارة الرقيق، والدور العلمى للجيش المصرى هناك وتمدين المدن الصومالية.
والفصل الثانى دار حول جهود الدول الاحتلالية فرنسا وبريطانيا وإيطاليا فى إنهاء سيطرة مصر على الصومال من 1884 إلى 1887 م، والأسباب التى أدت إلى ضياع الصومال من سلطة مصر.
أما الفصل الثالث فتناول تطور العلاقات المصرية الصومالية من 1950 إلى 1980 م وتعرض للعلاقات السياسية بين مصر والصومال قبل الثورة يوليو وفى فترة حكم جمال عبد الناصر، والتى تمثلت فى الدور الذى لعبته مصر فى المجلس الاستشارى ودعم مصر لاستقلال الصومال وموقفها من مشكلة الحدود مع إثيوبيا، وفترة الرئيس محمد أنور السادات الذى عمل على إبعاد التدخل السوفيتى عن الصومال، وموقفه من الحرب الصومالية الإثيوبية ودعم مصر اقتصاديا وثقافيا للصومال خلال فترتى حكم الرئيسين عبد الناصر والسادات.
