يضم هذا الكتاب 24 رسالة مختارة إلى الأصدقاء من بين أكثر من ثمانمائة رسالة إمتدت على مدار 26 سنة. أما عنوان الكتاب فعبارة مأخوذة من إحدى الرسائل التى كتبها شيشرون إلى ماركوس ماريوس بتاريخ 10 يوليو 47 ق.م., وكأنه كان يعرف توليوس ماركوس شيشرون [106 - 43 ق.م.] هو خطيب روما المفوه, والبلاغى الذى اسهم فى تطوير اللغة اللاتينية, وهو الذى قدم الفلسفة اليونانية إلى الثقافة الرومانية
يضم هذا الكتاب 24 رسالة مختارة إلى الأصدقاء من بين أكثر من ثمانمائة رسالة إمتدت على مدار 26 سنة. أما عنوان الكتاب فعبارة مأخوذة من إحدى الرسائل التى كتبها شيشرون إلى ماركوس ماريوس بتاريخ 10 يوليو 47 ق.م., وكأنه كان يعرف نهايته عندما استسلم بهدوء ودون مقاومة لجلاده لكى "يحسن ذبحه" فى السابع من ديسمبر عام 43 ق.م.
