تشدِّد الكنيسةُ منذ القديم على دور العقل الأساسيّ في تعزيز الإيمان وإنضاجه، إذ يساهم مساهمةً لا بديل عنها في البحث عن الحقيقة بطرق علميَّة. فثمَّة تكامل بين الإيمان والعقل طَبَعَ مسيرة الكنيسة طوال التاريخ. وهذا التكامل أساسيّ في إيمان الكنيسة بالوحي التاريخيّ، أي بوحي يتمّ في التاريخ، ومن خلال انفتاح البشر على عمل الله المستمرّ في حياتهم.
يمثِّل هذا الكتاب مساهمةً علميَّة تشدِّد الكنيسةُ منذ القديم على دور العقل الأساسيّ في تعزيز الإيمان وإنضاجه، إذ يساهم مساهمةً لا بديل عنها في البحث عن الحقيقة بطرق علميَّة. فثمَّة تكامل بين الإيمان والعقل طَبَعَ مسيرة الكنيسة طوال التاريخ. وهذا التكامل أساسيّ في إيمان الكنيسة بالوحي التاريخيّ، أي بوحي يتمّ في التاريخ، ومن خلال انفتاح البشر على عمل الله المستمرّ في حياتهم.
يمثِّل هذا الكتاب مساهمةً علميَّة ورصينة في مسألة تكتسب أهميَّة راعويَّة كبيرة، إذ يُظهر أنَّ موضوع الشرّير ينتمي إلى مفهوم العالم كما كان شائعًا حين دُوِّنت الأسفار. ويُلقي هذا الاستنتاج الضوءَ الجليّ على عمل المسيح الخلاصيّ، وقد أتى المخلِّص ليقهر "الخطيئة" التي تؤول إلى الموت الروحيّ. لقد فتح يسوع باب الخلاص لكلّ مؤمن، لأنّه بيَّن بموته وقيامته أنّ حبّه أقوى من شرّ الإنسان وخطيئته. وبقدر ما أنّ عمل الخلاص هذا يكشف عن حبّ الإنسان حبًّا إلهيًّا مجنونًا، فيضعه، من جهة أمام مسؤوليّته ويدعوه إلى تحمّلها بجدّيّة، وينيره، من جهة ثانية، على معنى حياته الإيمانيّة الحقيقيّة، وخلاصتها العمل مع يسوع من أجل جمع "شمل أبناء الله المشتّتين" (يوحنّا 11: 52).
