إن الثورات العرقية التي اندلعت في القفقاس بعد إنهيار الإتحاد السوفييتي، وإستمرار إنعدام الإستقرار في الإقليم هي سبب يدعو إلى القلق لجميع الدول المجاورة مثل إيران، تركيا، وبالطبع الفدرالية الروسية نفسها.
الحقيقة هي أن هذه الصراعات قد أصبحت محط إهتمام الأمم المتحدة، إضافة إلى كونها نقطة الإرتكاز للتدخل من قبل العديد من القوى الأجنبية لخدمة اهدافها وأجنداتها.
لقد أصبح القفقاس نقطة الضعف لدى روسيا، وهدفاً مغرياً لخلق المشاكل وإنعدام الأمن لروسيا من قبل "أعدائها السلميين"، وهكذا يتم إستخدام القفقاسيين مرة أخرى كحجارة شطرنج على الرقعة، ويتكرر التاريخ نفسه مرة أخرى في غير مصالح سكان القفقاس أنفسهم.
