يحمل هذا الكتاب الذي نطل عليه اليوم عنوان "عنترة بن شداد". وهو لصاحبه محمد كامل حسن المحامي، ومنشور ضمن سلسلة "عباقرة خالدون.
ينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى ستة فصول؛ بحيث يعالج كل واحد منها جانبا من جوانب الحياة المريرة التي عاشها هذا الشاعر المسمى عنترة بن شداد العبسي. وخلاصة القول أن هذا الشاعر الفحل لم يستطع الباحثون والنقاد والمنقبون في سيرته أن يعرفوا عنه الكثير سوى أنه كان ابن جارية سوداء تدعى "زبيبة"، والتي أنجبته بعدما حبلت به من "شداد" الذي لم يعتبره ابنا ولم يعترف به سوى كعبد لديه. إلا أن عنترة تحرر من هذه العبودية وأسس لنفسه مقاما ومكانة عالية. فأصبح الفارس الشجاع والمحارب الصنديد والعاشق الولهان الذي أحبه الناس وأعجبوا به وبشعره.
كان هذا الشاعر يعيش فقط على حب عبلة. وهذه هي الحقيقة الوحيدة المؤكدة في حياة عنترة بن شداد العبسي. كانت عبلة أو "عبل" كما يسميها في أكثر من قصيدة نور حياته وعلة عيشه. إلا أنها لم تكن تبادله الحب نفسه بل كانت تصده عنها. أما والدها "مالك" فقد كان يكره عنترة كرها شديدا؛ بحيث كان كلما طلب منه عنترة الزواج من ابنته طلب منه في المقابل مهرا كبيرا لا يستطيع شخص في وضع عنترة تقديمه. وهكذا، فقد كانت قصة حب عنترة قصة مليئة بالحزن والأسى. ولأجل عبلة دخل السجن وعاش مع الأطياف وحاول النسيان. ولأجل حب عبلة هذه، جادت قريحة عنترة بأشعار بقيت خالدة إلى اليوم حتى صار اسمه مقترنا باسمها. وقد كان عنترة الشاعر أسود البشرة وأشعث الشعر ثم فارسا مقداما أحبه الصغير والكبير. أما حبه لعبلة فهو حب عذري صادق قوبل بالرفض من طرف محبوبته. لقد عاش حياته لعبلة إلا أنه لم يتزوجها كما لم يتزوج غيرها.
