إن علم المنطق، كما هو معلوم - لدى المتخصصين - هو العلم الذي لا غنى للعلوم العقلية عنه، سيما في مرحلته الصورية، كما أن العلوم التجريبية المعملية في حاجة ماسة إلى إستخدام المنطق في مرحلته المادية الإستقرائية، وما من شك في أن المنطق الإستقرائي المادي يعتمد إلى حد كبير في حالة تطبيقه على الجزئيات على المنطق الصوري.
ثم إن علم المنطق علم التفكير، وله أهمية في تكوين عادات عقلية منظمة ضرورية للشباب، وهو مقبل على وضع خطة مستقبله الدراسي والمهني حسب قدراته وإمكانياته، وهذه هي حكمة تقرير علم المنطق على طلاب المرحلة الجامعية.
فالمنطق ميزان العلوم ومعيارها، وهدى للعقل إذا أخطأ في الفكر، إذ أن قواعده إذا روعيت تعصم الذهن عن الخطأ في التفكير، ولما كانت قواعد المنطق موجودة في العقل بالغريزة، وجد كثير من العقلاء لا يعرفون علم المنطق، ومع هذا فقد كانت أفكارهم مستقيمة ولم يؤثر فيها جهلهم بهذا العلم نتيجة لسلامة غرائزهم، ثم إن هذه الغرائز البشرية قد تفسد بالمؤثرات التي تحيط بها في هذه الحياة، وعندئذ تضطرب الأفكار نتيجة لتلك المؤثرات، من أجل ذلك، كانت الحاجة ماسة إلى دراسة علم المنطق، بدليل حاصله، فهو علم يحتاج إليه كل مفكر وباحث، يريد أن يصل إلى علم المجهول، حيث أنه ينظم التفكير البشري، بحيث يكون التفكير صحيحاً سليماً، لإكتساب المرء المعلومات التصورية التي يجهلها، والتصديقات والأحكام التي لا يعلمها.
