يحكى تيرى جونز صراحة فى مقدمته الشيقة لهذا الكتاب عن المسكوت عنه فى سياسة الغرب والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية فيقول:-

أصبح ما يطلق عليه "الحرب على الإرهاب" طوق النجاة للصناعات العسكرية، ولم يذكر أى من المعلقين تلك المصادفة المرتبة على أن يقوم التطرف الإسلامى بملء الفراغ التى تركته الشيوعية، ولم يذكروا ايضا كيف أن هذا الاستبدال المريح لابد وأنه قد قوبل بالارتياح التام فى دوائر صناعة الأسلحة، والتى هى كما أفترض كانت تنكب سرا وبدأب ومنذ عام 1990 على صب المزيد من الزيت على الخلاف المستعر بين الغرب والإسلام.وربما كانت الرسالة الأكثر اهمية هى: كيف أجبر الهجوم المسيحى على الإسلام فى العصور الوسطى المسلمين على تشكيل آلة حرب أكثر كفاءة، حتى جاءت حقبة بيبرس فى القرن الثالث عشر، وقد أصبحت الدولة كلها، فى واقع الأمر فى يد الجيش المملوكى القوة الوحيدة المهيمنة، والأكثر من ذلك أنها كانت قادرة على إجبار المغول على العودة مدحورين.
هل يقوم الغرب والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بتكرار أخطاء أوروبا فى العصور الوسطى؟
