يقول التفتازاني عن هذا الكتاب: «انتهزت فرصة من عين الزمان، وأخذت في تصنيف مختصر موسوم بالمقاصد منظوم فيها غرر الفوائد ودرر الفرائد، وشرح له يتضمن بسط موجزه، وحل ملغزه، وتفصيل مجمله، وتبيين معضله مع تحقيق للمقاصد وفق ما يرتاد، وتدقيق للمعاقد فوق ما يعتاد».
