رينيه الحايك هي كاتبة وروائية لبنانية. ولدت رينيه بمدينة جونيه ودرست الفلسفة بالجامعة اللبنانية ببيروت. وقد نشرت العديد من الكتب التي تشتمل على مجموعات قصصية قصيرة وروايات. وقد تمت ترجمة روايتها القصيرة "مكالمة الهاتف" وتجميعها في مجموعة قصصية قصيرة عن طريق كاتبات نساء لبنانيين. كما تم ترشحيح اثنين من أحدث رواياتها بعنوان "صلاة من أجل العائلة" و"حياة قصيرة" إلى الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية، وذلك خلال عام 2009 و2011 على التوالي.

عندما يعود إبراهيم، يكون متعباً، لا ينطق بأية كلمة حتى بعد أن يستحم ويجلس قبالتي إلى طاولة الطعام، يشرب العصير رشفات صغيرة كأنه كأس ويسكي، شيئاً فشيئاً يستعيد بعض الهدوء؛ قد يحكي عن عمله وقد لا يفعل؛ يصرّ أن أخبره عن يومي.
أحكي عن الكتب التي أقرأ فيها، أحياناً يبادر هو لسؤالي عما حل بشخصية أو بأخرى في الكتاب، يحصل أن أنسى الكتاب تماماً، أما هو فيظل يذكر الشخصيات بأسمائها ويقارن بين ما حصل معها من أحداث وبين ما نعيشه نحن في الواقع؛ قد نستعيد أشياء جرت معنا في بيروت أو نعاود سرد حادثة مضحكة عن أحد أصدقائنا؛ نضحك كأننا علمنا بها للتو، أحياناً أخبره عن مشواري إلى السوق الهندي الذي أحب التجوال فيه؛ أريه الهدايا التي اشتريتها لأهلنا ولأصدقائنا.
يستغرب أن أشغل نفسي بشراء هدايا وموعد عودتنا بعيد، لا أقول إنني أفعل ذلك كي أحسّ أن رحيلنا قريب.
