يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى دراسة عصبة العمل القومي كظاهرة حزبية شكلت جزءاً من حركة التحرر الوطني والقومي العربي، وكانت حاضرة على مسرح الأحداث، وخصوصاً في لبنان وسورياً منذ عام 1933 متطرقاً إلى ظروف نشأتها وتأسيسها وأهدافها ووسائل عملها وتوجهاتها وأطرها التنظيمية ومؤسساتها ودورها ومواقفها حتى توقف نشاطاتها وانفصال فروعها في الأقطار، ويضمن في ملاحقة أوراقها ووثائقها الأصلية.
إنه كتاب يكشف النقاب عن محطة مبكرة من محطات العمل النضالي العربي.
وهكذا فقد جاء هذا الكتاب موزعاً على ثلاثة فصول: تناول الفصل الأول: ظروف نشأت عصبة العمل القومي، وأهم المواقف الدولية من الوحدة العربية، ولمحة عن أبرز الأحزاب في لبنان وسوريا في الثلاثينات. وأخيراً ناقشت كل ذلك. وتناول الفصل الثاني: تكوين العصبة: التأسيس والمؤسسون، أهدافها ووسائل عملها، تنظيمها، إضافة إلى ما تميزت به نشأتها، وناقشت تكوينها رابطاً بين تكوينها وظروف نشأتها. أما الفصل الثالث فتحدث عن خطة الباحث في عرض دور العصبة، فعرض لدورها فيه منذ أن تأسس إلى أن توقف نشاطها، وبينت أسباب توقف نشاطها، ثم ناقشت دورها. أما الخاتمة فقد أوجزت تكوين العصبة ودورها، ثم أجابت عن تساؤلات حولها.
