يقف مسكويه متنظراً متفلسفاً حال الإنسان، باحثاً عن الأسباب والعلل، وساعياً لبناء الغايات والنظم. وهو بذلك لا يعبّر عن قلق فردي أو مسعًى شخصي بل عن امتداد حضاري كان فيه سؤال الأخلاق هو السؤال، والإجابة عنه كانت هي المعنى.
