"يسمونها خربة النواح، أو صارت تدعى هكذا، هي قريتي التي ولدت فيها منذ تسعين عاماً قضيت منها ما يقارب الثمانين، بانتظار عودة والدي من الحرب. تقع خربة النواح في سفوح سلسلة شاهقة من الجبال التي طالما تراءت لي في سنواتي الأولى وبعد أمسيات التأمل في كينونتها، إنها أقيمت خصيصاً لتثبيت تلك القرية وتركيزها نهائياً، بعد أن زالت مراراً، بفعل اعتكار في مزاج الطبيعة، حسبما كانت تروي جد "يسمونها خربة النواح، أو صارت تدعى هكذا، هي قريتي التي ولدت فيها منذ تسعين عاماً قضيت منها ما يقارب الثمانين، بانتظار عودة والدي من الحرب. تقع خربة النواح في سفوح سلسلة شاهقة من الجبال التي طالما تراءت لي في سنواتي الأولى وبعد أمسيات التأمل في كينونتها، إنها أقيمت خصيصاً لتثبيت تلك القرية وتركيزها نهائياً، بعد أن زالت مراراً، بفعل اعتكار في مزاج الطبيعة، حسبما كانت تروي جدتي، أو بفعل الغزوات التي حصلت في أزمنة غابرة، حسبما روى خضر الدلب، في كتابه "سيرة الخيانة" ليبقى الماضي السحيق نتفاً من ذكريات كئيبة، تتوارثها الأجيال في تعاقبها، تضيف عليها أو تحذف منها ما يزيد من غرابتها وسحرها، فتتخذ على مرّ الأيام، حين يعاد سردها، منحى آخر، لتصبح سراً أو شيئاً غبشاً يتخيله المرء على هواه، أما الأحداث التي كانت تفلت من الذاكرة لشدة قدمها، فكانت، تذهب، لا محال، إلى النسيان. وليس من شيء مؤكداً".
