وهو عبارة عن مذكرات كتبها السفير الأمريكي في تركيا بين 1914- 1916
كتاب يوجز الكثير عن أعمال التهجير الجماعي والإبادة بالجملة لجموع السكان الأرمن ، وما صاحب ذلك من تجويع وإذلال وانتهاك للأعراض وسلب الممتلكات تحت سمع وبصر الحكام العنصريين وبإيعاز منهم ويصور الكثير من الحوادث المريرة ومحطات القوافل التي كانت تقتاد على طول الطريق للذبح وقص الرقاب حتى أخر مرحلة لها في دير الزور ( سوريا )
وأهمية هذا الكتاب أيضاً تتجلى في أن صاحبه ليس بالمعنى الدقيق مؤلفاً أو باحثاً ، ولا مؤرخاً ولا كاتباً ... ولكنه بحكم موقع الدبلوماسي كان يعيش في عاصمة الأمبراطورية العثمانية
ومن هنا فإن المعلمومات التي أوردها الكاتب ( هنري مورغنطاو ) هي في واقع الأمر مشاهدات من قرب ومعاينات عن كثب ، وفي النهاية جمعها وأرشفها ودونها لتصبح واحدة من أهم المراجع كشاهد عيان على الأحداث المريرة التي مرت في يومٍ من الأيام .
