يضمّ هذا الكتاب الممتع ورواية لرحلة الأميركي أ. أوكر التي قام بها عام 1868 فروى بأسلوب شائق ممتع تفاعلي يمور بالوصف والحركة والمشاعر الشخصية، مغامراته ومشاهداته منذ إنطلاقه برحلة بحريّة من بومباي في الهند إلى مسقط، ومنها إلى الكويت التي خضها بوصف جميل وأنيق يندر مثاله، وذكر استقبال شيخها آنذاك عبد الله الصّباح، له ولأصدقائه، ولا سيما القبطان الإسكتلندي، والكونت الإيطالي السّنيور بييترو، ثم عبر وادي الفُرات الأدنى، فالأوسط، ثم كركوك والموصل فجزيرة ابن عُمر ونصيبين عبر كيليكيا وصولاً إلى ماردين وديار بكر، ومنها إلى بيلان وخليج الإسكندرون على البحر الأبيض المتوسط، حيث ركبوا البحر متوجهين إلى إسطنبول.
من بومباي بالهند إلى القسطنطينيّة (إسطنبول)، كتاب حافل بالمغامرات وقصص الصيد والغزو، ووصف البلدان والمدن والأقوام والآثار التي مرّوا بها.
