"مارك تواين (واسمه الحقيقي: صموئيل لانغهورن كليمنس) كاتب أمريكي ساخر شهير (1835- 1910) عرف برواياته ""مغامرات هَكلبيري فين"" التي وصفت بأنها (الرّواية الأمريكية العظيمة)، و""مغامرات توم سُويَر""، و""الأمير والفقير"". نُقلت عنه الكثير من الأقوال المأثورة والسّاخرة، وكان صديقاً للعديد من الرّؤساء والفنّانين ورجال الصّناعة وأفراد الأسر المالكة الأوروبية، وَوصف بعد وفاته بأنه "مارك تواين (واسمه الحقيقي: صموئيل لانغهورن كليمنس) كاتب أمريكي ساخر شهير (1835- 1910) عرف برواياته ""مغامرات هَكلبيري فين"" التي وصفت بأنها (الرّواية الأمريكية العظيمة)، و""مغامرات توم سُويَر""، و""الأمير والفقير"". نُقلت عنه الكثير من الأقوال المأثورة والسّاخرة، وكان صديقاً للعديد من الرّؤساء والفنّانين ورجال الصّناعة وأفراد الأسر المالكة الأوروبية، وَوصف بعد وفاته بأنه ""أعظم السّاخرين الأميركيين في عصره""، كما لقّبه وليَم فوكنَر بأبي الأدب الأميركي. في سنة 1867 سافر تواين إلى البحر المتوسط بتمويل من إحدى الصّحف المحلية، وأثناء رحلته إلى أوروبا والشرق الأوسط كتب مجموعة من رسائل السفر التي حظيت بإنتشار كبير وجُمعت فيما بعد بكتاب ""أبرار في الغربة"" سنة 1869.
