فانتقادات بوبر لأفكار وفلسفة أرسطو وهيجل وماركس - وفلسفة أفلاطون في الجزء الأول - هي انتقادات للتصورات الماضوية القبلية التي تتبنى الدكتاتورية وتعادي المجتمع المفتوح وتسعى إلى هدم الحضارة وترويج لا عقلانية، قاطعة، نهائية، مغلقة.
وفي اللحظة الراهنة حين نبحث عن المجتمع المفتوح والتعددية، نجد أن فهم الشمولية، وأهمية ودلالة الكفاح لمواجهتها، تبدو قضايا ملحة ونحن نشهد هجوما رجعيا يجعل الماضي "القبلي" نموذجا طهرانيا بريئا من أية ملابسات تاريخية.
