نظراً لعدم وجود ترجمة عربية للتلمود ظل الإعتماد عليه غير مكتمل فى الدراسات اليهودية باللغة العربية. وظل التلمود فى العقلية العربية محاطاً بالأساطير والخرافات حول طبيعة مادته. لذلك كله تظهر أهمية قيام الدكتور مصطفى عبد المعبود بترجمة الجزء التشريعى من التلمود وهو الذى يضم أجزاء المشنا ذات الأهمية العظيمة على المستوى التشريعى. فالمشنا لها أهميتها كمصدر تفسيرى للعهد القديم، و نظراً لعدم وجود ترجمة عربية للتلمود ظل الإعتماد عليه غير مكتمل فى الدراسات اليهودية باللغة العربية. وظل التلمود فى العقلية العربية محاطاً بالأساطير والخرافات حول طبيعة مادته. لذلك كله تظهر أهمية قيام الدكتور مصطفى عبد المعبود بترجمة الجزء التشريعى من التلمود وهو الذى يضم أجزاء المشنا ذات الأهمية العظيمة على المستوى التشريعى. فالمشنا لها أهميتها كمصدر تفسيرى للعهد القديم، وكمصدر تشريعى للديانة اليهودية.
ومن المعروف إحتواء المشنا على ستة أجزاء أو نظم وهى زراعيم المختص بالأحكام الخاصة بالزراعة، وموعيد الخاص بالأعياد وبخاصة السبت، وناشيم الخاص بأحكام النساء، ونزيقين الخاص بالقوانين المدنية والجنائية، وقداشيم الخاص بالأحكام المنظمة للخدمة فى الهيكل والقرابين وأحكام الطعام وغيرها، وطهاروت الخاص بأحكام الطهارة والنجاسة. وقد تكفل بالقيام بهذا العمل الجرىء الدكتور مصطفى عبد المعبود بقسم اللغات الشرقية بكلية الآداب جامعة القاهرة وهو مؤهل علمياً جيداً فى مجال الدراسات التلمودية؛ حيث تخصص فيه وهو على معرفة ممتازة بمصطلحات هذا التخصص ومفاهيمه.
