كتاب التذكرة لأبي المعالي ابن حمدون (495-562هـ)، موسوعة أدبية فكرية تقع في أربعة أبواب هي: الأخلاق والأدب والشعر، وفنون النثر، ومتفرقات. وقد تبسط المؤلف وأطال بحيث وقعت في عشر مجلدات.
يدخل كتاب "التذكرة" في باب أدب السمر المعروف عند العرب من مثل عيون الأخبار لابن قتيبة والعقد الفريد لابن عبد ربه. وقد اشتهر قديماً حتى قال فيه ابن خلكان: "من أحسن المجاميع يشتمل على التاريخ والأدب والنوادر والأشعار لم يجمع أحد من المتأخرين مثله -وهو مشهور بأيدي الناس كثير الوجود وهو من الكتب الممتعة".
قام الدكتور إحسان عباس بتحقيق المجلد الأول من "التذكرة"، فضبط النصوص، وتتبع دورانها في كتب الأدب والسمر، ووضع فهرسة "أولية" للكتب التي نقل عنها مؤلف الكتاب مبيناً بذلك مصادره.
ومجلد الكتاب هذا يعالج المسألة السياسية في الإسلام من وجهة نظر كتاب "مرايا الأمراء" ويعمل الدكتور عباس على تحقيق بقية الأجزاء.
