نبذة النيل والفرات: إن فهم كتاب الله القرآن الكريم، ومعنى حديثه نبيه المرسل (ص)، ومقاصد كلام العرب، على اختلاف صنوفه، مبنية أكثرها على "معاني حروف القرآن الكريم". من هنا كانت معرفة الأدوات من المهمات التي أولى علماء الإسلام لها أهمية لاختلاف مواقعها والذي يؤدي إلى أن يختلف الكلام والإستنباط بحسبها. وفي هذا يقول المالقي: للحروف دورها في أداء معنى العبارة كالباء في قوله تعالى: "يا أيها الذين آمنوا إذا قمتم إلى الصلوة فاغسلوا وجوهكم وأيديكم إلى المرافق وامسحوا برؤوسكم وأرجلكم إلى الكعبين" ]المائدة/6[. قال الباقر: إنها بمعنى "بعض" أي امسحوا بعض بعض رؤوسكم لا كلها. من هنا اكتسبت دراسة علم "أدوات القرآن" دلالتها والتي عدها السيوطي "مما يحتاج إليه المفسر" وهذا يعني أن علم معاني الأدوات علم نشأ في ركاب تفسير القرآن الكريم، حين كان علماء العربية والمفسرون، يفصّلون المعاني المختلفة، لأداة واحدة، في النصوص القرآنية، ثم شبّ هذا العلم، وترعرع، حتى استقل بميدانه الخاص المتميز. أما أقسام أدوات القرآن "يقصد بها الأدوات والحروف والظروف والنواسخ ونحوها وهي ثلاثة: 1- الأدوات الحرفية نحو: أ، إذن، ألـ ، ألا ، ألاّ (...)، هل، واو، يا . 2- الأدوات المشتركة بين الحرف والإسم نحو: إذ، إذا، ك ، لما، ما، ها (التنبيه وضمير الغائبة)، النون، الياء. 3- الأدوات الإسمية نحو: إفّ ، الآن ، أنّى ، أولى، أي (...) هيت ، هيهات ، وي ، ويل". ما يميز هذا العمل أنه جاء بشرح مفصل لعلم أدوات القرآن يعتمد اللغة العربية أداة للشرح والفهم ووسيلة لتبيان مقاصد الشريعة المتضمنة في القرآن القرآن عن طريق فهم "معاني الحروف" وهي ما يحتاج إليه "المفسّر" وكل قارىء للقرآن الكريم.
