يلجأ الإنسان إلى قاموس اللغة، لمعرفة كلمة استغلق عليه فهمها، لكنه لا يستفيد من هذا النوع من القواميس، إلا في مرحلة متقدمة من التعلم. بهذا المعنى لا يستخدمه الإنسان، إلا عند الضرورة. أما هذا القاموس فإنه بمثابة كتاب مطالعة بحيث أصبح ضرورة تثقيفية للطالب في السنتين الأخيرتين من المرحلة الابتدائية والسنة الأولى من المرحلة المتوسطة. إنه ضرورة لأنه يدرب الطالب على استخدام القاموس، أي على فن البحث عن الكلمة، في مرحلة مبكرة من عمره. إنه ضرورة لأنه يختار كلماته المرتبة هجائياً بما يتناسب مع مستواه العقلي فيزوده بثروة لغوية تمكنه من التعبير عن حاجاته. إنه ضرورة لأنه يقدم الكلمات ضمن إطار من الجمل والتعابير السلسلة التي تقوي عنده ملكة الإنشاءـ وتنمي فيه تذوق الكتابة وتحبب إليه المطالعة... إنه ضرورة لأن المعانى مستمدة من حياته ومن بيئته... فلا إسفاف ولا تجريد إذ يتعامل مع الآلة الحديثة والزهرة الجميلة والعمل النافع والتسلية البريئة... مما يشكل عند الطالب ثروة فكرية لعقله المتعطش إلى المعرفة الصحيحة. إنه ضرورة أنه يعول على الشرح وحسب وإنما يعتمد الصورة الجذابة بألوانها، الموضحة بأبعادها وأشكالها، وهكذا نعلم طلابنا بأسلوب شيق مسل بعيد عن الرتابة والجمود.
