ليس صحيحاً ما يتردَّد بين حين وآخر من أن الإهتمام بالشعر بدأ ينحسر، وأن هذا الفنّ العريق لم يعد يهيمن على الوجدان البشري كما كان قبل ظهور الفنون القوليّة الحديثة وإستئثارها بالمشاعر، فالواقع - والواقع العربية بخاصة - يؤكّد أن الشعر بمختلف تمظهراته وتعدُّد أشكاله ما يزال هو الفنّ الأوّل وأحد أهمِّ الملاذات التي تهرب إليها الروح في لحظات القلق والإحباط...
ويعد ديوان الشاعر السعودي "محمد السقَّاف - بالرَّغم من أنه الأوّل إضافةً واعدةً إلى المكتبة الشعرية العربية، إذ يُفصح عن موهبة عالية ومخيِّلة فريدة في إلتقاطها لما هو شعري: "من أضرمَ النيرانَ... في كَبِدِ الليالي المطفئاتِ... ومن سرى بمواجعي... من ألَّبَ الذكرى... على أرقِ الوسائدِ... ما هيَ الأوراقُ... تمضغُ ما تيسَّرَ من سواد الحبرِ... فاستوت الهوامشُ والمتونُ".
"سيرة الشجن" هو عنوان هذا الديوان الشعري، وإذا كان العنوان - حسب الرأي النقدي المتداول - يُشكِّل عتبة الدخول إلى أيِّ عمل إبداعي، فإن الشاعر "محمد السقَّاف" أحسن إختيار العتبة لما تثيره إحدى حوامله وهي كلمة "شجن" في النفس من إشتعالاتٍ وحرائقَ روحيةٍ تظلُّ غائبةً لكن ما تكاد ظلالُ الكلماتِ الشجيَّة تلامسها حتى تنتفض وتصحو وتتوهَّج...
ويظلُّ العمرُ شيخاً أبدياً... كلّما يدنو شبابٌ يتعامى... شهيق الشاي في فنجانهِ... همٌّ... سحاباتُ دخانٍ... تحرقُ الماضي... وتعدو... فوق ذاكرنا البعيدهْ...
يا الزوايا التي حَفَرَ الخوفُ... فيها أخايدَهُ... ومضى... ليس يدري إلى أينَ... إني أراه بكلّ تفاصيله... يتمشّى كأهلِ الطريقةِ... بين السماوات والأرض... إني أراه بكلِّ عناصرهِ... يتوحَّد مثلَ الغمامِ... ولا يتجزَّأ مثل المطرْ.
