بين الراوي ومحيطه علاقة لا ينفصم عراها، حتى بعد مرور زمن، سيبقى أحدهما يؤثر في الآخر ويتأثر به. والروائي هنا هو فؤاد خريزات إبن لبنان المقادم يقدم للقارىء صورة من صور المقاومة الباسلة في جنوب لبنان أثناء الإحتلال الإسرائيلي، عبر قصة حب غير مكتمل باستشهاد البطل ياسر. حيث لا حب زمن الحرب. مقولتان اثنتان تقولهما الرواية: الإحتلال والحرمان فشخوص الرواية تعيش فعل المقاومة من جهة؛ وتعاني ما تعانيه من حرمان ونقص في الخدمات وهجرة إلى العاصمة وما نتج عنها من أحزمة البؤس على أطراف العاصمة. في مقابل شريحة أخرى، غرقها في الذاتي، يشغلها عن أي هم وطني أو إنساني. وكأن بالراوي يرسل إشارات؛ على من تقع مسؤولية تخلف النظام الإجتماعي والعجز عن مواكبة التطور على لسان إحدى شخصيات العمل " ... إن هذا النظام الطائفي يعيق التقدم والتطور .. كل الأمم والشعوب تعمل وتتقدم، فالتقدم يكون نتيجة العمل الدؤوب. أما نحن في هذا البلد، فإننا تعيش الضياع، وعدم وجود سياسة وطنية سليمة يجعل خطانا خبط عشواء، ولن يكون التقدم وليد الصدفة ...". شخصيات هذه الرواية تحكي قصة شعب مقاوم في صراع مرير مع عدو لا يرحم، فهم بشر من لحم ودم ومشاعر لا تنطفىء رغم قسوة الحرب التي فرضت عليهم فرضاً، فكان الأمل بالحرية وبالحق الذي لا يموت عنوانهم في النضال، هي ثقافة حياة لشعب اختار المواجهة، فالموت والحياة وجهان لعملة واحدة ووجود أحدهما شرف لوجود الآخر. هكذا يجب أن نقرأ "براعم وبَرَدْ".
