فى هذا الكتاب لم يقتصر «امتياز الشعب المختار» على بنى إسرائيل فقط ـ فقد جاءت الكنيسة الكاثوليكية واعتبرت أنها أصبحت المختارة، ومن ثم حلت محل بنى إسرائيل.... ويعنى هذا أن الرب غضب على بنى إسرائيل، ومن ثم ظهرت معاداة اليهودية فى المسيحية... ثم إن الكنيسة الكاثوليكية انحرفت عن المسيحية الصحيحة ـ فأصبحت المسيح الدجال وعاهرة بابل، وأصبح البروتستانت هم الشعب المختار، وهم هنا ـ بصفة أساسية ـ الشعب الإنجليزى البروتستانتى. وبسبب الاضطهاد الدينى، هاجر البيوريتانز من انجلترا لأمريكا فرارًا بدينهم ـ حيث يذكر المؤلف ـ بدون الدين ما كانت أمريكا، ثم ثار البيوريتانز فى أمريكا على بريطانيا فى نهاية القرن الثامن عشر، واعتبروا أنفسهم بنى إسرائيل، والشعب المختار الجديد الذى اضطهده فرعون ـ ملك بريطانيا ـ فحاربوهم وانتصروا عليهم.شكلت أسطورة الشعب المختار الثقافة الأنجلوساكسونية، حتى أنها أحد.يستعرض المؤلف تأثير تلك الفكرة، منذ المسيحية الأولى.... حتى جورج بوش الثانى: ليس هناك شعب يمكن أن يعترف ويحب يد الرب الخفية التى توجه شعوب العالم أكثر من شعب الولايات المتحدة.
