عند تلك اللحظة بالذات، اقترب من بوابة الحافلة ثلاثة؛ امرأة ورجلان، تقدَّمتهما المرأة التى تعرَّفتُ عليها على الفور وكانت من العربيات العاملات بالقسم الدولى للمستشفى المرموق الذى يجتذب مرضى من شتى البلدان، فأدركتُ أن الرجلين كانا من العرب الوافدين. بينما حيَّتنى المرأة بإيماءة ودلفت لتأخذ مقعدًا ورائى، تبعها الرجل الأول وكان شيخًا ممتلئ الوجه غامق البشرة، أسود الشعر، فى حين بدت جذور السالف والشارب واللحية المرسومة حول ذقنه بعناية، مبيضة، مما أكد لى أن شعر رأسه الفاحم السواد كان فى الحقيقة مصبوغًا، عظيم الأنف وقد جلست فوقه نظارة شمسية فخيمة، شديدة الدُّكنة. كان يرتكز على عَصَا أبنوسية مُذَهَّبة المقبض، وحين صار بجوار مقعدى تمامًا دعاه الرجل الثانى الذى كان يتبعه مباشرة أن يتخذ المقعد المجاور لى، فجلس ولطمَتْنى على الفور رائحة العطر الفرنسى النفاذة التى فاحت منه، بينما جلس رفيقه بجانب المرأة على المقعد وراءنا مباشرة. حيتنى المرأة من الخلف بالعربية فالتفَتُّ إليها ورَدَدْتُ تحيتها ثم رجعتُ إلى كتابى، بينما انطلقَت الحافلة وبدأ الهواء البارد يتسرسب نحونا.
