الأجبية هو كتاب الصَّلوات اليومية الذي تعرفه كل الطقوس شرقاً وغرباً، ولكن بأسماء متباينة. فكتاب الأجبية في الكنيسة القبطيَّة يُعرف في الكنيسة السِّريانيَّة باسم "الأشبية"، وهو معروفة في الكنيسة الأرمينيَّة باسم "جاماكيرت - Jamakirt"، وفي الكنيسة البيزنطيَّة باسم "هورولوجيون - Horologion". وفي الكنائس الغربية باسم كتاب "الساعات القانونية - Canonical Hours". ولقد مارس آباؤنا الرُّسل الأطهار - نواة كنيسة العهد الجديد- خدمة الصلاة بالمزامير، بعد حلول الروح القدس يوم الخمسين. ولدينا إشارت مبكِّرة منذ القرن الثاني الميلادي نعرف منها أن الكنيسة صارت تشجَّع أولادها على الترنُّم بالمزامير. والكنيسة التي ترعى الصلاة بالمزامير خدمة شعبية تنتشر بين الأُسر ومن داخل البَيَت، لا تبرد حرارتها أبداً، ولا تفتر علاقتها بالمسيح. هذا هو الطريق الذي سلكه الآباء فبلغوا مساكن النور، وما على الأبناء إلا اقتناء آثار آبائهم
