عندما حدث الأمر كان هو في المطار. ابتعد عن بلاده آلاف الأميال في عمق قارة أخرى. لكن المشكلة كانت لا بد أن تدركه بغتة… كلعنة. سيدفع الآن ثمن أميته. وكونه سكن قرية لا تصلها الكهرباء ولا الأخبار الطيبة. فبوصفه خريجاً من ميتم لضحايا الحرب بامتياز. ومصاباً بالصمم. ما ان عليه سوى أن يفغر فمه ويبدأ في إثارة الإزعاج بصف الانتظار أمام منصة شرطة الجوازات، عندما اشتم رائحة الرفض تفوح أمامه، بينه وبين المدينة الجديدة. وهو يتحدث بأصابعه. قدر الضابط حجم المشكلة. هنا وهناك؟ ولم يمنحه إذن عبور. بينما كان الختم تحت ذراعه مباشرة. فاتصل بأحدهم ليأتي بخبير في لغة الإشارات. وإلى ذلك الحين اقتيد المسافر الغريب إلى غرفة مجاورة كانت تعد سجناً بالنسبة للمسافرين المتمرسين. بينما اعتبرها هو عنواناً للضيافة وشيئاً مبهراً ما كان ليشاهده حتى في الخرطوم.
