برز "الأخطل الصغير" كإسم شعري متميز، ويعود هذا الإسم الى الشاعر اللبناني بشارة الخوري وقد يكون ما بين الشاعرين من تجاوب روحي هو السبب في اعتزاز بشارة الخوري بهذا اللقب وهو وإن تلقب بلقب "الأخطل الصغير" فقد كان كبيراً في شعره وإبداعه. برزت شاعرية "الأخطل الصغير" وسط عدد كبير من الشعراء حيث ولد في العقد الأخير من القرن التاسع عشر وتوفي في ستينيات القرن العشرين، إن هذه المرحلة عجت بالأسماء الشعرية الكبيرة إلا أن "الأخطل الصغير" أثبت مكانته الشعرية المتميزة. امتاز "الأخطل الصغير" بشعره الغنائي فغنت له السيدة فيروز وغنى له فريد الأطرش ومحمد عبد الوهاب وغيرهم من عمالقة الغناء العربي. جدد "الأخطل الصغير" في مضمون القصيدة العربية من خلال تعميق الرؤية الشعرية ولا سيما فيما يتعلق بالمواضيع الوطنية والوجدانية. أجمع الأدباء على اختياره كأمير للشعراء بعد أحمد شوقي. سيجد القارئ الكريم في هذا الكتاب دراسة عن حياة وأدب "الأخطل الصغير"، بالإضافة الى مجموعة منتقاة من أفضل قصائده.
