وتتضح أهمية موضوع البحث من خلال دراسة المنطقة والتعمق في شرح القضايا المتعلقة في الجوانب السياسية الاستراتيجية والعسكرية والعقدية والاجتماعية.
وسبب أختيار هذا الموضوع هو الكشف عن الحقائق التاريخية في القرن الإفريقي الذي شوهت به السياسات الاستعمارية سواء كانت أوروبية أو حبشية علي حقب التاريخ القديم والحديث، كما كان الهدف من اختيار هذا البحث تفسير المشكلة الصومالية برؤية إسلامية واقعية.
والمنهج الذي سلكته في البحث هو المنهج التاريخي الوصفي التحليلي، أما الصعوبات التي واجهتنا فهي تمثل ندرة المراجع والمصادر، وتعتبر دراسة شؤون القرن الإفريقي من أصعب الدراسات التاريخية بسبب كثرة المتغيرات التي طرأت علي الساحة المحلية والعالمية عبر القرون.
وقد قمنا بهذه الدراسة المتواضعة لرصد المعلومات عن تاريخ الصومال ماضيها وحاضرها بأسلوب سهل ميسور، وهو الأمر الذي لم يهتم به كثير من الباحثين قديما وحديثا في هذا المضمار.
