كان الوقت متأخرًا فقد علقنا فى الزحمة، دخلنا مثل نعاج لا حول لها ولا قوة فى دائرة المسيرة، كان وجهه الملتحي وصوته الحاد والسوط الذي يلوح به خاصة فى وجه الفتيات الفزعات يحدث أزيزا مزعجًا طغى على الضوضاء المنبثق من الجموع الساخطة المكتومة التي تندفع باتجاه المشنقة. رفعت عينيَّ بصعوبة تجاه المقصلة، كان جبل من الصخور يثقل أجفاني، كان معلقا على الحبل ورأسه ينحني فى انكسار على كتفيه العريضتين، ملامح وجهه تشي بخيبة ومرارة، فكانت يداه تنزلقان بهدوء على جانبيه، وقدماه تتدحرجان كبندول ساعة قديمة صدئة. كان سابحا فى نوم عميق وحلم أخذه لأرض أخرى، حلم يوما بأنها أرضه ، أرض تشبه الوطن أو حضن أمه.كانت رغبة مجنونة ودافئة مثل الدم الساخن تحدوني كي أصعد إليه أضمه قليلا أزيح الحبل عن عنقه الفتيِّ، أربت على شعره الأسود الناعم الذي كان يتطاير مع الريح تلك الريح التي عبرت صدفة فوقه، وتساءلت عما يحدث ثم طارت بعيدا لتذيع الخبر هنا وهناك حيث صمت البيوت التي تعيش انتظارها المر. كانت أصابعي ترتعش وأحس بها تمر على وجهه ترسم ملامحه بذاكرة الكفيف؛ لأنني لم أعد أراه، لم أعد قادرة على الرؤية وضبابة من الدموع تغطي وجهي، كنت أحسه بقلبي ينغرز كالنصل البارد ويسكن داخلي، ووجعي جرح لن يشفى أبدا . علا الصراخ من كل جانب وجوه متعطشة وجائعة للموت والانتقام والهوس حول خياله المعلق على الحبل. بصقت إحدى الفتيات على وجهه وعلت البهجة وجوه الآخريات، حدقت بهن زرعت صورهن فى ذاكرتي، انبثقن فى ذاكرتي مثل المرض الخبيث وغطتني من جديد سحابة داكنة وغبت عن الوعي.
