القومية العربية ليست فكرة مجردة بل هي تعبير شامل عن طموح الأمة من أجل تحقيق النهضة. ويعني ذلك أنها تتناول جميع ما يتعلق بتلك النهضة. لذلك فالكتابات القومية التي بضمها هذا الكتاب لا بد أن تتناول إلى جانب جوهر الموضوع وهو القومية، وإلى جانب الهدف الأول وهو الوحدة العربية، القضايا الهامة التي تتعلق بالنهضة. وأول تلك القضايا هو النهضة الكبرى التي حققتها الأمة عند ظهور الإسلام. إن بحث مسألة القومية والإسلام يكتسب أهمية من هذه الناحية إلى جانب الجدل الصريح والضمني الذي نشهده الآن عن طبيعة هذه العلاقة. ومن المهم التنويه إلى أن الكتابات التي يضمها هذا الجزء عن علاقة العروبة بالإسلام يعود جزء هام منها إلى المراحل الأولى من النهضة العربية، وبالتالي فهي ليست متأثرة أو ناتجة من الجدل الصريح والضمني الذي نشهده في الوقت الحاضر.
كما أن نظرة القومية العربية للحضارة البشرية وتاريخ الإنسان أمر لا يقل أهمية، لذلك فقد تعمدنا وضع الكتابات المتعلقة بذلك في هذا الجزء بالذات. فلئن كانت القومية الأوروبية قد نشأت في ظروف سلبية طبعتها بالتعصب والصراع العرقي ورغبات الهيمنة فإن القومية العربية، متأثرة بظروفها أيضاً وهي ظروف مختلفة تماماً، كانت ذات جذور إنسانية ومنفتحة على التطور وفي اتجاه تقدم الإنسان، حيثما يكون، وبذلك اكتسب صفة إيجابية منذ البداية. إن إنسانية القومية العربية هي عموماً العمود الفقري لهذا الجزء، الذي يضم (56) بحثاً لعدد كبير من الكتاب، من مختلف الاجتهادات.
