يضم هذا الكتاب مختارات من تراث محمد عزة دروزة، يقدمها مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية في إطار مشروعه لتقديم تراث رواد الفكر القومي ومفكريه. ومحمد عزة دروزة (1887-1982) واحداً من أعلام الفكر القومي العربي ومن أبرز مناضليه. انغمس في العمل القومي بكل قواه. وأعطى للحركة القومية نفسه. وشارك نظرياً وعملياً في معاركها.. عندما كتب فاقت إسهاماته في الكتاب التاريخية والسياسية إسهامات كثيرين من زملائه. وعندما انغمس في العمل السياسي برز دوره في كل النشاطات التي شارك فيها. ولكنه، للأسف، كجمع من أقرانه لم يلق الاهتمام والتكريم الواجبين، وظل جانباً مهماً من تراثه غير منشور أو متناثر. وهو صاحب رؤية قومية للتاريخ العربي، عني بتأصيلها، كما عني بأن يؤسس مفاهيم وقيماً تربوية. وتعكس مؤلفاته العديدة عطاء موفوراً، أسهم من خلالها في تعميق الوعي القومي والتاريخي، وشارك في بلورة خط سياسي قومي وتحرري. ودافع عن الإسلام وقيمه، وعن الوطن العربي، والأمة العربية. وظل وفياً لقيمه حتى مات. وتقتصر المختارات الواردة في هذا الكتاب على إسهامات المفكر العربي القومية فقط والتي تتصل باهتمامات المركز. نذكر منها: دروس التاريخ العربي من أقدم الأزمنة حتى الآن، منشأ الجنس العربي وقدمه في الجزيرة، تمهيد في صلة العراق بجزيرة العرب وموجاتها إليه ومصادر تاريخ هذه الموجات فيه، عصر النبي وبيئته قبل البعثة، العرب والعروبة في حقبة التغلب التركي، مأساة فلسطين، الوطن العربي الكبير موجز جغرافيته الطبيعية والاقتصادية والبشرية والسياسية، إدراك العرب لضرورات الوحدة، معالجة العقبات في طريق الوحدة الخ وإذا كانت إعادة طبع هذا التراث سوف تساعد الباحثين المعنيين بشؤون العمل القومي. فهي في الوقت نفسه تكريم للرجل ولدوره في خدمة العمل القومي.
