رأينا -على امتداد القسم الأول- أن كبار شعراء المرحلة الثانية الرومانتيكية يربطون البحث عن أشكال جديدة فى التعبير بمفهوم ميتافيزيقى للشعر, ويعتبرون قصيدة النثر (عن وعي أو لا وعى) أداة تمرد ضد نظام كامل من الأعراف الاجتماعية والفنية, و"صيدا روحيا" -فى آن- وبحثا عن المجهول أو المطلق. وسنرى -بالتأكيد- فى العهد التالي, أعنى خلال العشرين عاما الأخيرة من القرن, ظهور اهتمامات مماثلة لدى أتباع "بوديلر" و"مالارمية", وسيدور الحديث, أكثر مما مضى, عن المعنى العميق والقيمة الميتافيزيقية للشعر: لقد ظهرت اندفاعة حاسمة, وولدت حركة, ستنتشر موجاتها دائما, منتصرة أبدا فى القوة والامتداد حتى الآن. ورغم ذلك, فيبدو أن هذا الجيل الرمزي قد انشغل -بشكل خاص- بالبعد التقنى والشكلى من المشكلة الشعرية: فقليلة هى العهود الأدبية التى شهدت مثل هذا التكاثر للكتابات النظرية, والمقالات, والمقدمات, والنشرات الهجائية, التى تقترح وتدرس تجديد الشكل الشعرى. إن ازدهار الأشكال المتنوعة- التى شهدت ميلادها هذه الفترة الوجيزة, رغم ذلك, أشكال تنطلق من النثر الشعري إلى قصيدة النثر وإلى الشعر الحر, مرورا بعدة وسائط أخرى -لهو, ماتتميز به عن أشكال شديدة القرب منها. ونستطيع, فى ختام هذه الفترة, أن ندرك- بشكل التى زودنا بها "رامبوا", و-من ناحية أخرى- بفضل الإرشادات التى تستخلص من المحاولات العديدة للرمزيين. ومن هذا المزدوج, عرف القرن العشرون كيف يستفيد.
