لقد دأب مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية – منذ ما يزيد عن عقد من الزمن – على المتابعة العلمية لظاهرة العولمة في تكوّنها والتحوّلات الحادثة على سيرورتها، نظراً لما تمثّله من منعطف كبير في حركة الاقتصاد والمعرفة والاتصال على الصعيد الكوني، ولما يشدّ مصائر القسم الأعظم من مجتمعات العالم ودوله إلى نتائجها.. واليوم.. إذ تجنح العولمة – ومنذ 11 أيلول/سبتمبر 2001 – لعسكرة نفسها، وإطلاق حروبها العدوانية للمزيد من السيطرة على الثروة واحتكارها، ولمنع دول الجنوب – ومنها بلدان الوطن العربي – من التحكّم في ثرواتها، وحيازة القدرة العلمية والتقانية، أو حيازة القدرة العسكرية الاستراتيجية للدفاع عن أمنها القومي ومقدراتها ومكتسباتها، فإن هذا الكتاب يعمد إلى إعادة تعريفها في سياق اشتغالها، وتحليل الصلة التي تشدُّ حركتها إلى سياسات الهيمنة الدولية، ورصد الأزمات التي تولّدها في الوطن العربي مختلف الآثار المدمّرة التي تحدثها في نسيج الاقتصاد والأسرة والجماعة الوطنية، مع تركيز خاص على حالة بلدان الخليج العربي: وهي الأكثر اندماجاً في الشبكات الاقتصادية للعولمة.
