اهتم القرآن الكريم اهتماماً كبيراً بالتقوى، وأكثر من الأمر بها والدعوة إليها، فقد وردت فكرة التقوى فيما يقرب من المائتين والأربعين موضعاً من القرآن الكريم. والأصل في التقوى: الوقاية، أي الحفظ وصون النفس من المكروه، وعن كل ما يؤذي ويضرّ، بالابتعاد عن كل ما يحول بين الإنسان والغايات النبيلة التي بها كماله في جسمه وروحه. والتقوى في كتاب الله تتناول: العقائد والعبادات، والآداب، وسائر الأعمال الصالحة.
وفي هذا الكتاب بحث نظري يعرض فيه المؤلف لموضوع التقوى متحدثاً فيه بداية عن مفهوم التقوى، وأشهر الوصايا التي قيلت في التقوى، وذلك في الباب الأول. وفي الباب الثاني يشرح المؤلف مراتب التقوى وصفات المتقين. أما الباب الثالث فيتحدث فيه عن ثمرات التقوى، ويستعرض في الباب الرابع أهم الأعمال التي تقرب إلى التقوى. أما الباب الخامس فيذكر فيه مواقف عن الأتقياء وذلك عبر أمثلة من القرآن الكريم وأخرى من الحديث الشريف.
يعرض هذا الكتاب لخير زاد يتزوده المرء ألا وهو التقوى، وذلك من خلال القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية،و أخبار الأنبياء والصالحين.
فالتقوى جماع كل برّ ومصدر كل خير وأصل كل صلاح، والتقوى تكون في العقائد والعبادات والآداب وسائر الأعمال الصالحة، ولا يتصف بها إلا من امتحن الله قلوبهم لها. وأعدهم لتحمل أعباء الدعوة إليه، وهيأهم للعبودية الحقة الخالصة له.
فمن هم هؤلاء المتقون؟ وما هي هذه التقوى؟ وما هي حقيقتها وأقوال العلماء في ذلك؟ وما هي مراتبها؟ وما هي صفات المتقين؟ وما هي ثمرات التقوى؟ وما الأعمال التي تقرب إليها؟
أسئلة يجيب عنها المؤلف بأسلوب سهل ومبسط دليله القرآن والسنة وعمل الصالحين من السابقين، عارضاً لمواقف من الأتقياء وخاتماً بأنه لا تقوى إلا بفقه وإرادة.
