جاء هذا الكتاب بعنوان "تأريخ مصطلح السُّنَّة ودلالته"، للدكتور "محمد خير علي فرج"، والذي يقع في (490 صفحة)، وقد بنى موضوعه على فصلين: الفصل الأول: تعريف السُّنَّة النَّبويَّة، وفيه أربعة مباحث، الفصل الثاني: السًّنَّة في السُّنَّة، وفيه ثلاثة مباحث. وبنى المباحث في الفصلين على مطالب كثيرة، تيسيراً للعرض وحُسن البيان، لم يُسْبَق المؤلف إلى هذا الموضوع على النحو الذي قدَّمه، فقد بيَّن معنى السُّنَّة عند اللغويِّين، ومعاني كلّ ما اشتقَّ من مادة (سنن) وملحقاتها، كما بيَّن معنى السُّنَّة عند فقهاء المذاهب الأربعة والظاهريَّة، كما بيَّن مفهوم السُّنَّة عند الأصوليِّين في المذاهب الخمسة، وعند المعتزلة والمجتهدين وأنواعها وأحكام كلٍّ منها، كما عرض لمعنى السُّنَّة عند المحدِّثين، ولكلِّ ما يلحق بها من ألفاظ مترادفة في الحديث والخبر والأثر، ويُقدِّمُ في نهاية أكثر ما عَرَضَ خلاصةً موجزةً لِمَا فصَّل القول فيه. وعرض في الفصل الثاني - السًّنَّة في السُّنَّة - لمفهوم السُّنَّة عند الفقهاء والأُصوليين في المذاهب الأربعة وعند الظَّاهريَّة والمعتزلة والمجتهدين، وكلّ ما يلحق بذلك أو له صلة به، ولم يفتْهُ بيان الحديث النبوي والقدسي، وبيان الفرق بينهما، والفرق بين القرآن الكريم والحديث القدسي، وذكر بعض المؤلَّفات في الحديث القدسي.
