"التاريخ تصنعه الشعوب ويساهم فيه الأفراد" وصلاح بدر الدين أحد أبرز المساهمين في مسيرة الحركة القومية الكوردية في سوريا يتحدث في مذكراته عن الظروف التي مر بها الشعب الكوردي في سوريا بشكل خاص وفي عموم كوردستان بشكل عام ضمن إطار منهجي موضوعي، ومن هنا يمكن القول أن هذه المذكرات تقع في منزلة متوسطة بين موضوعية التاريخ، وذاتية السيرة تهدف إلى تقييم المراحل الدقيقة في تاريخ الحركة الكوردية القومية في مسيرتها من خلال التحولات الفكرية والتطورات السياسية التي رافقتها صعوداً أو نزولاً وكشف حقائق وأسرار لم تكن معلنة حتى الآن ذلك أنه برأي الكاتب "لا يجوز فصل الحاضر عن الماضي .. فالراهن هو نتاج الماضي وصورته، والحاضر تواصل وتوطئة للمستقبل، ومن هذا المنطلق فإن تقييم دور الفرد ينطلق من تاريخية الموضوع القومي والوطني المتلاحقين المتكاملين، ويسلط الضوء على ما ترك للفرد – كائناً من كان – من آثار، وقدّم من إبداعات ومبتكرات فكرية وثقافية في مجال العمل النضالي (...). كل ذلك يجب أن يتم بأمانة وموضوعية عبر فصل السياسي عن الإنساني".
يتوجه صلاح بدر الدين بكتابه هذا إلى الجيل الجديد لأجل تنويره بتاريخ من سبقوه بصدق وشفافية لاستلهام العبر من تجارب السلف والإستفادة من أحداث الماضي القريب وإشعار رفاقه في الحركة التحررية القومية الكوردستانية بضرورة إعادة قراءة الوضع الكردي في سوريا، وتعديل النظرة (من جانب البعض غير المتابع أو غير المنصف) وبأمانة ووفاء الشعب الكوردي في سوريا، وما قدمه في الحركة والحزب الذي كان يمثله كتيار فكري واسع طيلة أربع عقود، وفكره القومي اليساري الديمقراطي وسولكه ودوره القومي والوطني، ما عدا المساعدات والخدمات لغالبية أحزاب الحركة السياسية في تركيا وإيران والعراق ... كل ذلك بهدف تقارب قوى العمل الوطني الكوردي في سوريا وقيام أفضل العلاقات الكردية العربية ...
