جلما اعتدت أن أفرك يدي كلما سنحت الفرصة..! وأنا الآن لا أفركهما، بل أصفق! سأغدو عظيماً. يا لهول ما سمعت! تحركت في مخيلتي غيمة، اثنتان.. ثلاث. كل الأشياء التي ابتسمت لها، ستضحك لي. وبختني أمي ذات يوم: "ما بالك يا طنوس، تبسم ببلاهة للذاهب والآتي؟ زم شفتيك زم.. اللعنة!". إلا أن فمي ظل يبسم أبداً.. ماذا أفعل يا عزيزي طنوس؟ هل هو إثم إن أنت ولدت معصوب العينين بعشبة غمدية خضراء، وعلى فمك هلال كقارب نشط؟ استرقت السمع إلى غرفة الأهل، لا صوت! ارتديت ثيابي ببطء شديد، وتمليت نفسي طويلاً في المرآة: "أنا بدين بعض البدانة، لا بأس. هذا لا يقلل من شأني!". مسحت وجهي براحتي كفي! اليد هنا، لا.. لا.. هنا؟.. حسناً في الجيب الأيسر. سأحاول ألا احرك كتفي أثناء السير، سوف أدب هكذا.. حين تراني يبهرها منظري.. حسناً. ألقي النظرة الأخيرة وأخرج. "ها ها..! ثلاث شعرات على "بطيخة" الرأس. كعالم فيزياء..! لا بأس.. كل ذلك لا يقلل من قدر الشخص إذا كان مهيباً". حين مررت بغرفة والدي، داعباني بكلمة ظناً أنها شتيمة: لا تعد! أعود طبعاً لن أفعل.. اليوم على الأقل. سأشرب وأنام في السماء. ابتسمت لهما وأغلقت الباب خلفي بهدوء. وأنا في طريقي إلى المدرسة، أخذا أفكر بعملي الجديد وبشيطانتي الجميلة. لمحت رجلاً وامرأة يبتسمان، يداهما متشابكتان، الرجل في مثل سني، والمرأة أصغر.. أصغر بكثير، ما ألطفهما.. ألفيت نفسي أتسمر بفضول. اقتربا مني.. تبينت أن المرأة فاقدة سنيها الأماميين فرسما في صف الأسنان المصفرة مستطيلاً مقلوباً. ضحكت. حدجني الرجل بنظرة طويلة غاضبة. انقلب هلالي الصغير دون أن أشعر.. لكن الرجل أخذ في الضحك، استدرت. تابعتهما وفي قلب قبصة صغيرة من سرور. ضحكت المرأة. ابتعدا وهما يهتزان كقربتين مهددتين بالسقوط. تابعت السير محاولاً ألا أشغل نفسي كثيراً. فكرت بأقصوصة وأنا أعبر على عوارض الخشب فوق المياه، أدخلت كتفي أولاً من باب المدرسة! أيها العالم. يا أرنبي الصغير الخائف من وحشة الشتاء. إياك أن تهزأ بطنوس.. فهو يحبك. انظروا.. لم يهزأ. فهو يغمرني بعطفه. كم أود الإمساك بإحدى القطرات التي تقرع عري رأسي.. ضحكت.. إنها هي الأخرى تداعبي حتى الجنون. إلى جانب غرفة الهيئة الإدارية، تقف شيطانتي. فوجئت! فكرت: "لا ريب أن انتظارها كلفها ذاك الاستحمام اللطيف بالمطر".
