الكتاب من تحقيق الشيخ مجد مكي. أ- الكتاب يتحدث عن الأحاديث المسلسلة وطريقتها: أن يتتابع رجال الإسناد عند روايته من أوله إلى منتهاه (أو أكثره) على حالة واحدة إما قولاً، أو فعلاً، أو قولاً وفعلاً معاً. ب- والأحاديث المسلسلة محل نقد ونظر، وغالبها لا تصح من جهة الإسناد، ومنها ما لا يصح تسلسله كله، بل يصح التسلسل إلى بعض الإسناد. ومع ذلك فقد اهتم بها علماء الحديث، وصنفوا فيها، مع بيان عللها، وهي لا تخلو من فوائد، وفي تسلسلها إنما يقصدون به التسلسل في الإسناد، وإلا ففيها مايصح متنه من وجه آخر. ج- وللإمام السيوطي كتاب كبير في الأحاديث المسلسلة سماه :«المسلسلات الكبرى»، جمع فيه «خمسة وثمانين» من الأحاديث المسلسلة، ثم قام باختصاره- وبعبارة أجود بالانتقاء منه- فكان كتابنا هذا «جياد المسلسلات» حيث ضمنه :«ثلاثة وعشرين» حديثاً مسلسلاً والتسمية ب«جياد» تزكية لهذا الانتقاء، ومن هنا خرجت أهمية هذا المنتقى الموسوم ب«جياد المسلسلات»، على أن قوله (جياد المسلسلات) لا يفهم منه أن هذه الأحاديث جيدة الإسناد، بل هي (جياد) بالنسبة لغيرها، وإلا ففيها الضعيف، وفعله هذا نظير قول المحدِّثين: (زيد أجود من عمرو)، فهم لا يقصدون بذلك توثيق (زيد)، بل هو كذلك بالنسبة ل(عمرو)، وقد يكون (زيد) ضعيفاً.
