كان إيميه سيزار (1913-2008) أحد مؤسسي الزنوجية، الحركة الأدبية والجمالية السوداء التي سعت إلى ترسيخ وتأكيد الكبرياء في الإنجازات الثقافية الافريقية. كانت الزنوجية بالنسبة لسيزار حركة مستقلة تبدِع أنماط أدبية جديدة، وتمرد بوجه الفوقية العرقية للفكر الاستعماري وإنتاجها الثقافي. لقد رأى بالزنوجية ظاهرة تاريخية تطوّرت من القواسم المشتركة للشتات الإفريقي أثناء التاريخ الاستعماري للشعوب الإفريقية، وبالتحديد تجربة سفن العبيد الأطلسيية ومزارع العبيد. "لا أظن أنّ التحدي المناهض للإمبريالية، المتمثّل بفانون وسيزار أو آخرين أمثالهم، تم التوصل إليه بأي طريقة: لم نعتبرهم بجدية كنماذج أو تمثيلات للجهد البشري في العالم المعاصر. وفي الواقع ضرب كل من فانون وسيزار.. مباشرة على مسألة الهوية والفكر الهوياتي، ذلك القاسم السري للإنعكاس الانتربولوجي الحالي على "الغيرية" و"الإختلاف". ما طلبه كل من سيزار وفانون من أنصارهم، حتى في خضم النضال، هو نبذ الأفكار الجامدة للهوية الراسخة والتعريف الثقافي المُشرعَن. لقد قالا، إختلفوا، من أجل أن يصبح قدركم كشعوبٍ مستعمَرة مختلفاً".
