يصعب فصل موضوع الحب في شعر إيلوار عن باقي شعره، فالحب يدخل في كل موضوعاته الشعرية، وكل توجهاته الإنسانية والاجتماعية والسياسية، بل يمكن القول أن كل الموضوعات الأخرى تدور حول محور واحد هو الحب. ألا يقول غوته أن الكتابات كلها تصير ركاماً إذا لم يربط بينها الحب؟ ولأننا نحب، يقول ايلوار: "تلك التي أحب، تجسد رغبتي في الحياة/الحياة التقتها الآن فإذا هي أبداً الآن/رغبتي في حياة بلا حسرة/في حياة بلا ألم، في حياة بلا موت/ولأنه ليس ثمة حياة أخرى فإنها حياة رائعة".
