شاعرة وروائية ورسّامة، ولدت في بيروت عام 1925 من والد سوريّ وأم يونانية، درستْ الفلسفة، ودرّّستها في الجامعات الأميركية، وأصدرت عدة كتب روائية وشعرية باللغتين الفرنسية والإنجليزية، تُرجمت إلى العديد من اللغات.
كما أقامت معارض عديدة، تقيم في سوساليتو في كاليفورنيا وتتنقل ما بينها وبين بيروت وباريس.
Book Description
كتاب "الست ماري روز" قصة امرأة لبنانية مسيحية قامت بأعمال اجتماعية، كتأسيس مدرسة للصم والبكم، وبنضال على صعيد تحرير المرأة، وبالتزام في القضية الفلسطينية من خلال إنشاء "جمعية أصدقاء القدس". جاءت الحرب الأهلية ولفت ماري روز في إعصار عنفها الدموي. تختطف ماري روز وتجري لها محاكمة -تخيلتها الكاتبة-تنتهي باتهامها بالخيانة وبإعدامها. المؤلفة "أتيل عدنان" كتبت هذه القصة بالفرنسية، وقد نالت عليها جائزة "جمعية الصداقة الفرنسية-العربية" لعام 1978. شاعرية الكتابة تضفي على المناخ المأساوي بعداً نبوياً. قضاة ماري روز، فيما يحاكمون هذه الأخيرة، يصبحون هم المتهمين. ومن خلالهم، تشيير اتيل عدنان على مستوى التحليل الأنتروبولوجي، إلى دوافع العنف في مجتمعنا، وتكشف ترسبات وظواهر الذهنية العشائرية والقبلية والطائفية.
