رهيف فياض لا يقرأ العمارة من حيث هي مجرد بناء هندسي له جماليته المتفردة بل من حيث هي جزء من تجليات متشابكة للعمران من حيث هي علامة اجتماعية تاريخية في مجال أوسع هو العمران. من خلال هذا الكتاب ينطلق رهيف فياض من الفهم نفسه للعمارة من حيث هي جزء من حركة العمران وجزء من المكان في المجال الأوسع. فيلقي الضوء على العمارة المجلوبة، المسبقة الصنع لتظل غريبة عن المجال المحيط لا تتآلف معه بقدر ما هي غريبة عن طرازه وتاريخه وناسه. وبالتالي يدخل الكاتب المعماري بيروت الراهنة يتجول في شوارعها فتبدو المشاهدة عبر الكلمات، يسجل ما يراه، بعين رحالة وبعين ابن المكان وتاريخه معاً فيسلط الضوء على الأشكال والوظائف والتحولات في البناء والمساحات. ولكي يتاح لهذه الرؤية أن تقرأ في مستوياتها المتعددة فنياً، معرفياً وإنسانياً صاغ الكاتب بعض فصول الكتاب بأسلوب الحوار الذي ابتدعه ودعم كتابته بصور فتورغرافية حية جالت في الموقع. كتاب شيّق يجمع بين أسلوب الكتابة والصياغة الفنية والرسم العمراني جمع الوهم البشري الذي يعيشه اللبنانيون بالواقع، أحداث وروايات يقصها الكاتب خلال الصفحات تروي مواقف جريئة حدثت مع سياسيون وسواح لفتت انتباههم وكانت مصدراً للعديد من التساؤلات. شخصيات أوجدها لتكون لتساؤلاتها صدى في عمق القارئ وبأسلوب ساخر يدخل إلى التفاصيل لإظهار التناقضات ويفسح المجال للعديد من التساؤلات.
