Dès le démantèlement de cet empire, les états naissants ont adopté les programmes occidentaux dans leurs écoles conçues sur le même modèle. La culture occidentale exerçait une fascination sur l’élite locale.
Au Liban, l’acquisiton de la langue française était une voie indispensable pour accéder à la culture et à la science française.
