القفل المعدني الضخم الذي كان معلقًا على باب الشقة هذا الصباح أفهمني أنه لا أحد بالداخل، ليس ذلك فقط، بل ربما تكونان قد سافرتا إلى "الاسماعيلية" فنحن من عادتنا عدم غلق باب الشقة بآية مفاتيح، نحن أصلًا لم نكن نستخدم المفاتيح في غلق أو فتح الباب، وأنا كنت أستخدم مطواتي في فتح الباب، باب شقتنا قديم ومتهالك، ومن الممكن فتحه بضربة قدم واحدة، نحن لا نملك أي شيء للخوف عليه، وكانت أمي تقول: "لو حرامي دخل البيت وشاف حالنا.. مش بعيد قلبه يحن ويسيب لنا فلوس وهو ماشي".
منظر القفل على الباب أفزعني، أفزعني ووترني وأصابني بالخوف، فالسفر إلى "الإسماعيلية" معناه أن هناك حالة وفاة، وقد تغيبان يوماً أو يومين، أنا أساسًا لا أعرف متى سافرتا! وفكرت في أن أسأل الجيران، وتذكرت الحكومة والحبس وضباط تنفيذ الأحكام فخفت, كنت قد قلت لنفسي: "هاشقر عليهم قوام وهارجع بسرعة".
