إنها مدينة عاهرة، متصابية، كلما يقبل الليل متسربلاً بعباءته السوداء، ما تلبث حتى تعري صدرها، وتشرع أبوابها للصوص، والمقامرين، وتمتزج بأنفاس الخمارة النتنة، وتتواطأ مع بائعي الهوى. وتضاجع البحر النائم على وسادتها، المتمدد على سريرها المخمور بعرقها!! هكذا أخذ يردد "عمر" بتقزز واشمئزاز وهو يغلي فوق مرجل الغضب الذي كاد يفتك بأعصابه الثائرة، لكي كتف بهذا بل أخذ يهيل تراب اللعنات على وجه هذه المدينة الصاخبة التي لا تعرف النوم، ولم يغمض لها جفن منذ أ، وقعت بحبائل ملهمها البحر الهادر، الذي يعزف لها سيمفونيات أمواجه، وينظم لها قصائده فوق خد لؤلؤة لم تغادر محارتها.
تأفف وهو يراقب الدخان المتصاعد الذي خلفته سيجارته، متخذاً وضع الاتكاء على أحد مقاعد المقهى الشعبي الذي يؤمه كلما ضاقت به السبل ولم يجد أحداً يبث له شكواه سوى صديق غربته، وهمه "حسنك فهما يمضيان الوقت يلعقان جرحهما، ويلوكان حرقتهما مع هواء المدينة الملوث، بأعقاب الزائرين الباحثين عن اللهو والعبث وأولئك النائمين بالدور المعتمة والمنزوية بالأقاصي!!
رفع "حسن" بصره إلى السماء مصحوباً بتأوه وتحسر: لا عليك يا صاحبي ما نحن إلا ظلال عابرة، عبرت هذا المدى الذي ضاق أمام خطواتها المحدودة التي لا تطمح إلا إلى كف تمد لها القمة صائغة، وتفتح لها بوابة العبور إلى جسر العمل الذي يكفيها السؤال، ومكان يستر هياكلنا!
زفر "عمر" وهو يحاول أن يسترجع صفحة الأيام الأولى من مقدمة إلى هذه المدينة مع رفيقه "حسن" أتذكر يا حسن عندما غادرنا قريتنا النائية عن وجه الحياة المشرق أو هكذا توهمنا عندما وصلنا إلى هنا... وصرخنا بصوت واحد: الحياة هنا، ما أروعها من مدينة تسبح في نهر من ضوء، تنبض الحياة في كل جزء من هذه المدينة الباهرة، التي خطفت ألبابنا وأزاغت أبصارنا، وشعرنا أننا نحلق في سمائها، ونتحلل في تربتها، ونذوب في نسماتها!
وهتفنا بفرح العاشق: هنا ستكون أمانينا حقيقة ظاهرة للأعين سيغبطنا كل أبناء قريتنا الذين لم تتح لهم فرصة الوصول إلى موانئ الحلم ومرافئ الأمل حيث تقع هذه المدينة التي جمعت كل المتناقضات، الجمال والقبح، والغنى والفقر، الحنان والقسوةَ! تأوه "حسن": صدقت يا صاحبي.
