تدلف "شهلا كيالي" إلى الأزمنة والمناخات كي تختصر سواها يمكنه أن يسبر غور هذه العوالم التي سكنتها طفلة. أحداث وصور تبعثرها الكاتبة على صفحات كتابها لتعيد رسم ملامح الوطن.
امتدت بنا رحلة الضياع ثلاثة أيام بلياليها بين الصخور والجبال والوديان، نلتحف السماء، ونفترش الأرض، يقطع صمت الليل عواء الذئب والثعالب، أو خشخشة الأفاعي والعقارب، تلتصق أجسادنا التعبة بعضها ببعض، تصطك أسناننا من الخوف فيجف ريقنا أكثر فأكثر.
وتتلوى أحشاؤنا من الجوع أكثر فأكثر، أقدامنا ما كانت تنتعله من أحذية اهترأت من وعورة الطريق، وهكذا وصلنا إلى قرية نعلين، حيث كان في انتظارنا سيارات حملتنا إلى رام الله، ولا أدري كيف وصل الماء لي. ما أتذكره أنني أمسكت بالإبريق وشربت شربت شربت دون وعي، حتى سقطت على الأرض.
