عاصم الخالدي من مواليد باب السلسلة بالقدس في العام 1933، عمل في التعليم ما يقرب من خمسة عقود من الزمن، بدأها في الكلية الرشيدية بالقدس وختمها متقاعداً من جامعة بيرزيت في العام 2000. وفي مجموعة من الذكريات هذه حاول الكاتب تدوين بعض الذكريات الشفهية التي تناقلتها عائلته التي سكنت حي باب السلسلة منذ مئات السنين، فروى بعض ما ورد من تلك الذكريات عن جد العائلة الأكبر قاضي القضاة شمس الدين الديري الخالدي المتوفى في العهد المملوكي(1433م) أيام كان طريق باب السلسلة هو الطريق الأعظم في القدس. ثم جاء الكاتب على ذكر بعض من عاصروا العهد العثماني في القرن التاسع عشر من أبناء جده القاضي محمود وخص منهم محي الدين الخالدي(المتوفى عام 1905) وابنه عبد الغني المتوفى عام(1902). وفي الفصل الأخير تحدث الكاتب بإسهاب عن والده فؤاد عبد الغني الذي شهد سقوط القدس ثلاث مرات خلال حياته. كان السقوط الأول في كانون الثاني عام 1917 عندما كان فؤاد شاباً في السادسة عشرة من العمر، رافق يومها عمه محمود عزيز الخالدي الذي أصر على مواجهة الكولونيل البريطاني ديدس للتعبير عن سخط أبناء فلسطين على وعد بلفور، ومن ثم شارك فؤاد في الحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية في ثلاثينيات وأربعينيات القرن الماضي. هذه ليست مذكرات، ولكنها مجموعة من الذكريات قد تبقي الأبناء على صلة بهذا البلد الذي أحبه أجدادهم وشرفو بالانتماء إليه، وتوثّق ارتباطهم بالقدس، مسقط رأسهم، على مرّ العصور.
