تعتبر حركة بابك الخرمي من أكثر الحركات الدينية والسياسية خطراً على الدولة العباسية خاصة، وعلى الإسلام والمسلمين عامة. هذه الحركة التي استمرت زهاء اثنين وعشرين عاماً اتخذت من تحسين الحالة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية لأشياعها ذريعة لانطلاقها، أما هدفها الحقيقي فقد ظل مستوراً عن أعين العرب والمسلمين لأطول فترة ممكنة. القراءات التي قدمت حول هذا الموضوع في مجملها وإن استثنينا القليل منها- لم ترتق في تفاصيلها إلى المستوى المطلوب، وبخاصة تلك التي تناولت شخصية بابك الخرمي، ولذا جاءت هذه الدراسة ضرورة ملحة لوضع النقاط على الحروف، حيث قام مؤلفها ومن خلال دراسته لهذه الحركة بسبر أغوارها وتحلل خطابها الديني والسياسي للكشف عن مدى التأثير الداخلي والخارجي الذي تركته الحركة على الدولة العباسية وعلى أتباعها، كما واعتنى بكشف النقاب عن حياة زعيمها بابك الخرمي الدينية والسياسية في ضوء ما كتب عنه، مع مناقشة وتحليل هذه المعلومات بغية الوصول إلى أعلى درجات اليقين، كما وجد المؤلف أنه لا بد له من تناول مقومات حركة بابك الدينية تناولاً جوهرياً، ثم الحديث عن أهمية الحركة من الناحية السياسية "العسكرية" ثم عرض للنهاية الدراماتيكية للحركة وتقديم تقويم شامل لها على المستويات كافة.
