لقد أفرز علم الأدوية لنفسه مكاناً وسطاً بين العلوم الأساسية والتطبيقية في الطب وطب الأسنان والصيدلة والتمريض، إذ انه علماً أساسيا وتطبيقياً في آن. وانطلاقاً من تراث هذه الأمة ولغتها العظيمة وتلبية لاحتياجات الطلبة والدارسين فقد تم إعداد هذا الكتاب باللغة العربية وبصياغة خالية من التعقيد وبأسلوب علمي واضح ومختصر ضمانا لحسن الاستيعاب لدى المتلقي. ولما كان علم الأدوية من أكثر العلوم تطوراً وتغيراً فقد احتوى الكتاب أغلب الأدوية المتداولة في الحقل الطبي في وقت التأليف. وقد تضمن المباحث الأساسية في علم الأدوية التي لاغنى للطالب عنها ، كما تناول مباحث علم وظائف الأعضاء المرضي pathogenesis لفهم الحيثيات المرضية لبعض الأمراض بغية إدراك الآلية التي يعمل بها الدواء ، فضلاً من أن الكتاب قد طرق مباحث علم وظائف الأعضاء والكيمياء الحيوية لفهم الفعاليات الفسلجية والخطوط الأيضية التي يتداخل معها الدواء وأخيرا فأننا نتقبل بكل امتنان أي ملاحظة أو نقد أو تصويب من إخواننا التدريسيين وأبنائنا الطلبة للوصول بالكتاب إلى أفضل حالة .
